The Salado Equine Medical Center externship program is designed to provide meaningful clinical exposure while helping veterinary students identify areas of interest and strengthen their practical skills in equine medicine. You’ll work alongside a highly skilled team committed to mentorship, collaboration, and professional growth.

What You Will Experience
Externs actively participate in the daily operations of our hospital, gaining practical insight into equine case management and clinical workflow.
- Assist with daily patient treatments and medical record management
- Support veterinarians during routine appointments, advanced imaging, emergency cases, and surgeries
- Collaborate with interns and technicians to manage hospitalized patients
- Observe and participate in diagnostics, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making
This immersive experience strengthens technical skills while building confidence in a team-oriented environment dedicated to teaching and mentorship.
